Theatre review: Rebecca, at the Festival Theatre, Malvern (until Saturday)
SOME lovers of Daphne Du Maurier's classic story will have been delighted with this, others may feel a little let down.
A sparse setting was meant to help make the imagination work, as the book does, but I'm afraid it didn't manufacture much of the brooding malevolence that should be there
But certainly Nigel Havers (Maxim) and Elisabeth Dermot Walsh (Mrs De Winter) were no let down - quite brilliant. Catching the eye too was Guy Williams, as the flamboyant and irritating Jack Favell.
A full house, generous applause and a fully booked theatre for the week says it all. AW
