DAVE Boddy is banking on Worcester City's FA Cup heroics to spark an upsurge in St George's Lane attendances.

More than 1,300 supporters went wild with delight on Monday night as City pulled off one of their greatest cup comebacks.

After trailing by two early goals to Conference high-flyers Accrington Stanley in the fourth qualifying round replay, Worcester hit back in thrilling fashion to win 3-2.

Boddy -- who admitted the giant-killing represented his finest hour as City chairman -- is hopeful the club's shock triumph captured the imagination of the Worcester public and brings about an improvement in league gates.

Turnstiles

This season, Worcester have been hit in the pocket at the turnstiles, with an average Nationwide North attendance of just 871.

"I hope we can build on this," said Boddy. "The attendance was what I wanted and I hope they come back against Barrow this Saturday, because they have seen a thrilling and entertaining game.

"Supporters that don't turn up regularly must start believing in us. We've got a management team here that is a different class to anything at this level.

"It was a big night for us, a great night. You talk about big nights and for a football club, it's important you get something out of them, whether you are Liverpool, Manchester United or Worcester City. Then you can start to go forward as a club."

Worcester pocketed £10,000 for beating Stanley -- taking their prize money for the season to £18,750 -- and a further £16,000 can be deposited with victory over Chippenham Town in the first round proper tie on Saturday, November 5.

Those winnings helped City alleviate their gate receipts shortfall, while Boddy hinted player-manager Andy Preece may be provided with funds to bolster his squad.

Boddy said: "All the money we've made in the FA Cup prior to Monday night has really gone into addressing the shortfall in gates, which have been down on the budget, and the overspend on wages.

"I don't want to make any rash promises (on signings). But I'm sure beating Accrington will put us ahead and it may give us an opportunity to do something."

The crunch tie at Chippenham is an all-ticket affair and Worcester are allocated 750 terrace tickets and 50 seating tickets.

Tickets for the segregated clash, to be held at 3,000-capacity Hardenhuish Park, are priced £7 adults, £4 OAP's and £2 for children.
