SIR - In response to John Phillpott's Seven Days of Saturday, October 8, he made three remarks about present-day Britain.
On the subject of justice he said "... perhaps a police state is not that far away, after all". In ducking responsibility he claimed it was "... yet another manifestation of who-gives-a-hoot Britain".
And finally, he asked whether we really wanted to see a return to destitute itinerant workers being forced to scavenge for sustenance. While I totally agree with Mr Phillpott's sentiments, out of their context, these remarks are wholly incompatible. Perhaps present-day Britain is really somewhere in between Mr Phillpott's conceived perception.
