A MALVERN man has just completed a sponsored walk along the Great Wall of China.
Martin Horsnail, from Malvern Wells, spent nine days walking a section of the wall.
He completed 100 miles and raised £2,700 for Asthma UK.
The walk was organised by Asthma UK and those taking part stayed in simple Chinese hostels or with Chinese families in small villages and towns.
"It was an amazing experience," said Mr Horsnail, who ran the Great North Run for charity last year.
He said asthma affected 5.2 million people in the UK and everyone knew someone affected by the illness.
The son of one of his companions on the Great Wall walk had died following an asthma attack just a year previously and this, said Mr Horsnail, had made the sponsored walk particularly poignant.
"A lot of people just don't realise how serious asthma can be," he said.
Mr Horsnail praised the generosity of those who had sponsored him, from individuals to companies like Robert Stern BMW and his employers Ardo.
He said it had been an experience he would never forget and he would love to go back to China one day and see more of the country.
