Famous figures from the past will soon have their connection with Malvern recognised.

Blue plaques will be put on buildings associated with people like former US president Franklin D Roosevelt, Queen Victoria and Siegfried Sassoon.

Roosevelt spent some time at Aldwyn Towers as a boy, Queen Victoria enjoyed an extended holiday at Hollymount House as a girl and war poet Sassoon has connections with Colwall.

Historical figures like Elgar, Charles Darwin and George Bernard Shaw also have links with Malvern.

Buildings with connections to famous people have been identified by Malvern Civic Society and Malvern Hills District Council will fund the scheme with a grant of £1,500 to purchase the plaques.

Plaques will be put on the buildings, with the agreement of the owners, and a leaflet marking their location will enable people to follow a heritage trail around the town.

The plaques should be put up within the next 12 months.

"The blue plaques are about people not places. They're about events in the past and the people who helped make the town what it is," said Simon Smith, of Malvern Hills District Council's economic development unit.

Other figures that could be recognised with a plaque include Jenny Lind (Wynds Point), T C Santler (Santler Works), Barry Jackson (Black Hill, British Camp), W H Auden (Downs School, Colwall) and Troyte Griffiths (Priory Gatehouse).
