CRADLEY could benefit from new sports facilities following the recent formation of a village sports club.
The club plans to use Cradley CE Primary School, as playing fields in Chapel Lane and Buryfields are not considered fit for the purpose.
A mini-soccer pitch has already been created at the school and there are plans to develop a full-sized pitch and large caged playing area, suitable for a variety of sports.
Chairman Frank Hare, who officially launched Cradley Sports Club last month, said: "Cradley is the second largest village in the county but until now had no sports club."
Planning permission for new facilities at the school is needed from Herefordshire Council. The club has support from prominent figures including MP Bill Wiggin, who has agreed to become a patron.
The proposals are designed to be wheelchair-friendly and sport for disabled people features prominently.
The developments will also benefit the school, as the club will be eligible for grants from bodies like the Football Foundation.
Mr Hare feels people are unlikely to join a new club until its credibility is established. Therefore, it will initially run an under-nines boys' football team, expanding later to other ages and sports at junior and youth level.
The club is running its first fundraising event, a flea market at the school, on Saturday, November 5, at 2pm. Anyone interested in joining the club should contact Mr Hare on 01886 880081.
