COLWALL WHC secured a well-deserved victory against Cirencester at Ledbury Leisure Centre on Saturday.

COLWALL WHC 6, CIRENCESTER 2

Cirencester started the game strongly, and appeared to be more determined than Colwall in the first 15 minutes of the game. Colwall settled into the match and opened the scoring when Anna Stocker crossed the ball for Nicky Glover to score her first goal.

Cirencester equalised with a well-taken goal before Glover scored again, this time deflecting a shot from Coral Handley past the keeper.

Stocker increased the lead with a run into the goal area and a dinked shot past the keeper to give Colwall a 3-1 lead. Cirencester again fought back to make the score 3-2 at half-time.

Colwall started the second-half with Glover completing her hat-trick following some intricate interplay between her and Handley.

As Cirencester tired, Colwall went into a 5-2 lead when Lucy Halligan hit a reverse-stick shot past the keeper in a goal-mouth scramble. Handley finished the match on a high note for Colwall with delicate lob over the goalkeeper from a penalty corner.

Colwall's next match is a Hockey Association Vase match away against Leek on Sunday.

The league campaign resumes on Saturday, November 5, with a home game against Stroud, at 2pm.
