I'M in a somewhat reflective mood today as it will be my last day presenting the Afternoon Show at BBC Hereford & Worcester.

Having had two stints on the show, I was thinking of all the people, some famous, some not-so-famous, who I have had the honour of interviewing.

The vast majority of them have been very pleasurable experiences. One or two have not, but that is another story.

When going out to do talks and the like, I am often asked who have been the best people I have ever interviewed.

There have been many but two that stick in my mind are John Major and Jenny Pitman. Why you may ask? Well, let's take Jenny Pitman for starters.

I was somewhat reticent to talk to her. I was told she was difficult to talk to.

So I did a little bit of research and found that her husband came from Worcester, so there was a basis for a chat.

She did me a superb interview, told me about the day her horses were locked in at Aintree when the bomb scare hit the Grand National, about her hard work breaking into racing as one of the first women trainers, and about her fight against cancer. She was a very honest and open interviewee.

John Major was at New Road watching the cricket one day. He had just lost the election so I wasn't sure if he would do an interview.

I asked one of his minders as he still had six, despite losing the election! The guy asked what I wanted to talk about. "Not politics", I replied, "as I don't know much about it".

"Neither does he," came the reply. "That's why he lost the election."

Anyway, I did in the end get to talk to Mr Major, and he was a superb interviewee.

We talked about sport, cricket in particular, and the funding of sport, and we nattered on for almost half an hour. In fact, I ran out of tape before we finished the conversation.

Again a very nice man, taking politics out of it all, one of the nicest people I have ever had the privilege of speaking to.

So, after a week to recharge the batteries, I shall be back on air on the Breakfast Show as the 'voice of sport', so hopefully will be able to talk to some more sporting heroes.
