MALVERN Angels took to the road again last Sunday to fulfil their third league fixture of the season against Buxton Ladies, up in the Derbyshire Peak District.
BUXTON 0, MALVERN ANGELS 101pts
Unfortunately, Buxton were only able to field a side of ten players but undeterred by the changes to squad positions, Malvern set about what turned out to be a total demolition of the opposition. During the 70 minutes game amassed a staggering 17 tries and eight conversions.
The Angels' head coach, Mark Edwards and forwards' coach Peter Williams were totally speechless for the first time this season as they watched Malvern player after player take the ball to the opposition and generate try-scoring play.
This victory takes Malvern Angels to the top of National League (Midlands) division four with a massive 169 point difference and a three-point advantage.
Squad players and scorers for this fixture were: Lynsey Secombe (prop), Rachel Brannelly (hooker, one try), Jo Barr (prop), Lorna Courier (lock, one try), Mel Dawson (lock), Caroline Hardy (scrum half, two tries), Deb Danby (fly half, eight conversion goals), Lou Saum (centre, six tries), Layni Madsen (centre, four tries) and Laura Bradford (wing, three tries). The replacements were Claire Labrano (prop), Ali Douglas (lock, one try) Abi Rhodes (no 8).
The player-of-the-game award was presented to Rachel Brannelly.
A development fixture for the Malvern Angels against Hucclecote Ladies has been arranged on Sunday (October 23) at Spring Lane, 2pm kick-off.
This is followed by a feast of women's rugby next Sunday (October 30) with the Malvern Angels' next Midlands division four league match against Ripley Rhinos, a Malvern Angels 2nd XV side playing Old Edwardians in a friendly and the Malvern U14 Baby Angels playing Worcester & Stourbridge U14s in a curtain raiser to the league match.
All games at Spring Lane.
