A FURIOUS motorist has hit out at Worcester traffic wardens after being slapped with a fine for parking on double yellow-lines - with other drivers seemingly escaping scot-free.

Gary Kibblewhite, of Weir Lane, Worcester, was given the £30 ticket after he left his car on double yellow lines in an area off The Trinity in the city centre.

The Worcestershire Racial Equality Council member said he parked there on Tuesday morning because he was running late for a meeting of the organisation at its Trinity offices.

When he came out of the meeting he realised he had been given a ticket. But, he was horrified to see about four other vehicles parked on the same lines had not been issued with them.

Mr Kibblewhite returned a couple of times later in the day and saw the cars were still there and again had not been given tickets. He decided to take a photograph to prove it.

The former city councillor believes the cars may have belonged to shopworkers in the area and that they were exempted because they were known to traffic wardens.

He has now written to Worcester City Council to complain, calling on the leader, Councillor Stephen Inman, to visit the area to investigate.

He said: "I was late for a meeting and basically took a chance parking there. I'm not worried about paying the fine, I just think it's unfair that some cars were there for seven hours and haven't been ticketed.

"I'm concerned that there are double standards operating here and equality is not being applied."

But Graham Vass, senior engineer in the council's property services department, said the cars may have had disabled stickers or they might not been there when the traffic warden came around.

He added: "I don't know fully why this might have happened without looking into it further. If anyone gets a ticket they are quite at liberty to appeal.

Is Mrs Kennedy's 4x4 in one space or two? Pictures tell different stories

A WOMAN who received four parking tickets in a city car park and claimed a car park attendant had a vendetta against her is at loggerheads with Worcester City Council over her latest fine.

The Worcester News told at the beginning of the month how Louise Kennedy successfully disputed three tickets she received in St Martin's Gate car park for parking her Range Rover in a disabled space without a disabled badge on display.

She was given a fourth ticket for parking over the lines of a parking bay. She again disputed it, claiming she had only parked a quarter of an inch over the lines and that, anyway, hers was one of only a few cars in the car park at the time.

Mrs Kennedy, of Besford, near Pershore, supplied us with a photo she had taken on her mobile phone of her 4x4 parked with one wheel millimetres over the line - but City Council senior engineer Graham Vass has disputed its authenticity.

In the council's photo, which is pictured above, Mrs Kennedy's vehicle is clearly taking up two parking spaces.

Mr Vass said Mrs Kennedy's fine had now gone up to £60 from £30 because she had not paid within the allocated time.

"I appreciate that the car park was not full by any means. However, in the interests of consistency and fairness to other motorists we had to take action in this case," he said.

"We have replied to her and sent her our photographic evidence."

But Mrs Kennedy is sticking to her word. "I have written to the council to appeal against their decision," she said. "I wouldn't have gone to the paper if I was making it up."
