A 32-year-old man died when his car left the road and collided with a tree on the A450 at Harvington, near Kidderminster on Monday.
Richard Smith, of Woodham Close, Rubery, Birmingham, was travelling from the direction of Kidderminster when his red Peugeot 405 saloon came to rest on its roof, near The Dog pub at around 2.30am.
A spokesman from Kidderminster Fire Station said firefighters cut the driver free from the car and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
It was believed no other vehicles were involved.
PC Nick Ferguson, of the North Worcestershire Road Policing Unit, said: "I would appeal to anyone who may have seen this collision - or the vehicle before the collision - to contact me on 08457 444888.
"Very often, people think that what they have seen is either immaterial or of no use.
"This isn't the case and all information, no matter how small, could be vital in piecing together what happened and every call is important to us."
An inquest into Mr Smith's death was opened and adjourned for three months by Worcestershire coroner Victor Round at the coroner's court in Stourport on Tuesday.
