Wharton Park
A MEMORIAL bridge has been unveiled as a new feature of the Wharton Park course in honour of three club stalwarts who have passed away.
The stone bridge has been located over the stream in front of the 18th green near the clubhouse.
It is named Beasley Bridge after former club steward Tony Beasley, and equally commemorates former captain Paul Tracey and member Frank Lester.
Relatives of the three former stalwarts were present to cut the ribbon at the unveiling ceremony.
Club captain Peter Hill said: "It is a wonderful way of remembering people who mean so much to the club."
The idea of the bridge has been mooted for some time, but it took the Seniors Section to bring the dream to reality, following discussions at their last annual meeting.
The bulk of the work was carried out by 78-year-old Bill Jones, with some labouring help from Seniors captain Nigel Norris and club chairman David Slade.
Meanwhile, a charity auction held after the Captain's Charity Texas Scramble competition has pulled in £1,000 for Oesophageal Cancer Support.
