KIDDERMINSTER Chess Club B had to settle for a draw in their opening Wolverhampton League Division Two match.
Visiting side Boldmere St Michaels won the Third Division championship last season, and arrived in confident mood.
At one time Kidderminster captain Mike Kitchen was a piece up in his game, but his fortune did not last and he was eventually beaten.
Bill Pugh was unable to secure the draw he needed in the last match to finish.
Individual results (Kidderminster names first): Mark Riley 1, J Fagan 0; Peter Kitchen 0.5, S Wilson 0.5; M Kitchen 0, K Thomas 1; Clive Billings 1, M Biddle 0; Terry Pountney 0.5, D Drelsforth 0.5; Pugh 0, P Jones 1.
