I FOUND Councillor Campion's reply (in October 13 issue) to my letter about a new civic centre interesting, but short on substance.

He does not answer two vital questions - where is the new centre to be built, and how will putting up a costly building improve council efficiency?

He says that the new building will be paid for by selling off council offices - but he cannot sell many of them.

At least two will have to be retained as district offices and the depot in Green Street, Kidderminster, will have to be kept.

If the new centre is built at Stourport you cannot expect nearly 60,000 Kidderminster residents to take a 10-mile round trip to the new centre.

District offices will have to be set up in Kidderminster and Bewdley, to take payments and answer inquiries.

This means that the only people visiting the new centre will be Stourport residents who already have a perfectly good civic centre. So why build a new one?

I found it rash of him to promise that it will cost taxpayers nothing. He cannot possibly know that.

As we all know, when new buildings are erected there is always a cost over-run because of unknown factors.

The truth is that the only ones who want a new centre are councillors.

Residents of Wyre Forest need to remember, if the new white elephant is built, that Councillor Campion has promised that it will cost you nothing.
