CHILDREN at Cleeve Prior school have issued a challenge to neighbouring schools - see if you can collect as many conkers as we can!
A giant horse chestnut tree next door to the school is a well-known local landmark and so far the children have accumulated a mountain of more than 6,000 from that one tree!
Class teacher Sarah Newbury, who came up with the idea of collecting them all in one place, said: "It would be interesting to see if any other school could get close to us.
"The children have been brilliant about the whole thing. I thought there might have been some resistance because they usually collect their own and take them home with them, but they all joined in happily.
"They also helped to count them and now they have finished that we are going to share them out and let them take them home," added Ms Newbury.
