KIDDERMINSTER Carolians enjoyed a break from their tough start to the Midlands Three West North season with a friendly fillip over Bromsgrove seconds, who they beat 16-7.

There were many changes to the side originally selected, as Olly Toms, Lee Southerton, Jason Sunderland, Matt Bennett, Greg Smith and Tom Scandrett were all unavailable.

Tom Such , Simon Higgs, Jack Tunstall and Matt Such replaced them and all performed admirably.

After 20 minutes KCs took the lead with an Andy Stooksbury penalty and the player coach was on target again to give them a 10-0 interval lead when he converted an Eddie Ross try.

The second half was rather scrappy with Jav Iacono stealing a lot of ball and two further Stooksbury penalties put the Marlpool Lane men 16-0 up with 15 minutes to go.

Bromsgrove reduced the deficit with a well worked converted try but KCs were in no mood to give up the lead and camped down in the opposition 22 for the remaining part of the game.

Stooksbury hopes to take the positives from the performance into Saturday's clash at Wednesbury

"It was a huge boost to confidence and we now go into next week's important league encounter with Wednesbury with great hopes," he added.

Kidderminster Carolians thirds secured a 29-10 victory over Cleobury Mortimer seconds who were pleased to get a game under their belts after several cry-offs from opponents this season.

Three early tries and a conversion put KCs 17-3 ahead at the break and they added two tries and a conversion after the interval.

Colin Smith was Cleobury's main main supplementing a first half penalty with a second half try which he converted himself.
