STOURPORT were left ruing missed opportunities as their 100 per cent start to the season came to an end with a 17-14 Powergen Junior Vase exit at home to Leek.
The Staffordshire visitors play their rugby two divisions higher than Stourport but despite the gulf it was a game the home team felt they should have won.
Time after time Stourport gained excellent field position only to commit simple handling errors which were punished by the opposition.
Leek scored a converted try and a penalty in the first half and a converted try in the first few minutes of the second to lead by 17 points.
Stourport came storming back and scored two tries through Steve MacDonald and Richard Abbott, converted by Rob Humphries.
Unfortunately Stourport could not cross the visitors' line again during a frantic finale.
Stourport, who lead North Midlands South Two, now look forward to a home league encounter against Greyhound next week.
Completing a miserable day for Stourport were the seconds who went down 23-17 at home to Worcester Wanderers.
The lead changed hands during the game on six occasions and in an end to end encounter Stourport were beaten by a try in the final minute.
Stourport's tries were scored by Owain Butler and Chris Holey. Captain Stu Wilson converted both and also scored a penalty.
His team are due to visit Chaddesley next week.
