HARRIERS boss Stuart Watkiss will ask the board for money for reinforcements after Saturday's FA Cup tie - with full back Wayne Evans on the brink of quitting Aggborough, writes Mat Kendrick.

But with the club still in a perilous financial predicament, there is a possibility Evans's wages might not be made available to bring in another player.

The experienced former Walsall right back signed a one-year contract after joining from Rochdale in the summer.

But the deal is soon to be cancelled by mutual consent to allow the 34-year-old to establish a football coaching company touring schools in Shropshire.

Watkiss said: "He's going to be leaving at a time which suits both parties.

"He's got a job with his business partner coaching at schools in Shrewsbury and he wants to finish his A licence and other qualifications.

"Ultimately he wants to go and coach in America and Australia. He told us this when he signed at the start of the season so it's not unexpected."

With Evans' imminent departure, Watkiss is keen to recruit a new right back and although Wayne Graves could fill the role, the boss has another target in mind.

A goalkeeper is also high up Watkiss's priority list with the boss keen to take John Danby out of the firing line after a difficult start to the season.

Dan Lewis made only his second first team appearance in Tuesday's 2-1 LDV Vans Trophy win over Darlington and he is set to be given the nod again on Saturday.

Once again, Watkiss has an alternative target in mind, but a new keeper's arrival could hinge on the possibility of another current member of Harriers' squad leaving the club.

Meanwhile, Kidderminster have been handed a boost ahead of their FA Cup fourth qualifying round clash at Southport with the news that Iyseden Christie will be eligible to play.

Watkiss feared he would be without his five-goal top scorer for the trip to Haig Avenue after Christie picked up his fifth booking of the season and an automatic one-match ban in the win over Darlington.

But secretary Roger Barlow has checked the rulebook and the suspension should not take effect until seven days after the offence, meaning he will instead miss the home clash with Hereford.

With Walsall preventing Taiwo Atieno from playing on Saturday to avoid the on-loan frontman from being cup-tied, Watkiss hopes Christie's fledgling strike partnership with Gareth Sheldon continues to blossom.

Simon Heslop has been given the all-clear by Barnsley to play in the FA Cup for Harriers.

Influential player coach Martin O'Connor is a slight doubt with a sore knee, while Michael Blackwood's hamstring injury will rule him out at least until the Hereford match.

The draw for round two of the Northern Section of the LDV Vans Trophy takes place live on Sky TV's Soccer Am programme on Saturday morning at around 9.30am. The draw for the FA Cup first round proper takes place at 5.15pm on Saturday and will be broadcast live on BBC 1 and Sky Sports News.
