BEWDLEY residents are being warned not to wait until floodwaters are lapping around them before taking preventative action.

A mobile advertising van will be ramming home the message when it visits on Tuesday.

The Environment Agency vehicle is calling at several riverside towns along the Severn that day as part of a flood awareness campaign.

Its aim is to encourage people living and working in flood risk areas to act to help protect themselves from the damage.

Ian Morris, the agency's flood risk manager for the Upper Severn, said: "We hope that this will remind people that they are living or working in a flood risk area."
