CANCER victims Elaine Major and Chris Kaler are celebrating this week after completing a sponsored walk which has netted hundreds of pounds for research into the disease.
The two women, who both work at Brompton House residential home for the elderly in Broadway, put their best feet forward and walked to work from their homes in Evesham.
As a result, they raised around £330 for Breast Cancer Research - and their employers BUPA have pledged to double the amount they collect.
"It was a bit of a slog, especially since we had to do a day's work when we got there," said Elaine. "We certainly knew all about it by the end of the shift."
Elaine, who contracted breast cancer several years ago, said: "Of course it was a blow when the news was broken to me.
"But there are a lot of experts out there now and if you listen to them and do what your are told, the survival rates can be very high."
Chris had only been back at work for two weeks after her course of treatment when they made the six-and-a-half mile trek from their homes in Fairfield and Bengeworth.
"We try to raise money for various charities every year," said Elaine. "BUPA supplied us with a list of options to choose from and since I had previously had breast cancer and Chris had only just finished her treatment, we thought it would be a good idea to raise money for that cause."
The walk was part of the Think Pink awareness campaign.
