I WAS was sorry to see L Spiteri write so disparagingly of our "hideous" Worcester College of Technology (Letters, Friday,
October 14).
Perhaps Mr Spiteri is unaware we have specific architectural assurances that in the fullness of time, this prize-winning edifice will come to blend with the stonework of the Cathedral.
Those of us who have patiently waited half a century for this transformation have to admit there has been some improvement.
Trees have been planted and matured which help to conceal the offensive buildings and help us to try and forget they are there. If Mr Spiteri will only be a little more patient no doubt soon the concrete will start to crumble producing a passable resemblance to Gueston Hall.
Meanwhile, modernists can compare the magnificence of the architecture to such other post-war examples as Elgar House, Tybridge Street flats and Cathedral Plaza. Incidentally, I recently noticed demolition work on the modern building next to St Swithuns Church in the Shambles. It seems only yesterday since it was erected and we lost the lovely old J and F Hall black and white building that stood for centuries on the site.
JOHN HINTON,
Worcester
