AN eight-year-old Evesham boy was mugged by a woman as he ran an errand for his mother on Sunday afternoon.
Jordan Turner, of Rynal Place, rode his scooter to Dillons, in High Street, to put credit on a phone card and buy himself some Simpson stickers.
But as he headed home he was approached by the woman who snatched his clear plastic bag with the card, stickers and £10.75 cash out of his hand.
"I was very frightened," said Jordan yesterday after returning to school for the first time since the incident.
"I came out of the shop and went past the Post Office and this lady walked up and I thought she was going to her car so I stopped. She just grabbed the bag. I tried to pull it back but she was too strong.
"I went home as fast as I could and told my mum and she phoned my nan and we all went to look for her but couldn't see her."
"He was hysterical when he got here," said Jordan's grandmother Susan Turner, also of Rynal Place.
"He was too upset to go to school for two days and he said he could never trust anyone again.
"I couldn't believe that this could happen. A woman should have a motherly instinct however old she is and to do this to an eight-year-old is disgusting. Old or young it's absolutely disgusting."
Jordan's mother, Samantha, agreed. She was at home with her three younger children when Jordan arrived back after his ordeal.
"I couldn't believe it, happening in broad daylight," she said. "He was so upset he was screaming, and I got upset seeing him like it."
PC Paul Adams said: "This is a despicable incident - the boy was traumatised.
"Any crime against a youngster is totally unacceptable. What sort of example is this to set the younger generation?
"There were a number of people in the area at the time so we are hopeful that someone will have seen something that will help bring this person to justice."
The woman is described as white, short and plump, with a red spotty face.
She had brown hair scraped back with a scrunchy into a short ponytail.
She was wearing blue jeans and carried a black handbag.
