WORKMEN who offered to fill potholes on the driveway of Wolverley High School sparked a complaint to Trading Standards after carrying out extra work and demanding a higher price than first quoted.
In the absence of headteacher Kevin O'Regan and the site facilities manager, a member of staff agreed to allow the contractors to patch up the drive at a price of £15 per square metre.
But much more work was carried out then had been agreed and although Mr O'Regan declined to say how much the final bill was, it was far higher than originally agreed. He is waiting to hear from Trading Standards where the school stands in terms of whether the full bill should be paid.
The school normally uses known contractors and operates a tendering process.
Mr O'Regan said: "I would advise others not to short-circuit normal procedures."
