THE Almonry is a treasure. Last week's headline, " Museum's £63K Debt", is misleading and should be looked at in an entirely different way.
Any public money used to support the Almonry Tourist Information Centre & Museum is taxpayers' (our) money well spent. The Centre staff provides a first class service to the public, particularly to our tourist visitors. The superb display in the Museum is a vital asset to the town and an important link for our young people with the Evesham heritage. The Centre does nothing but good for the local economy too.
Careful management, running things as economically as possible, with strong voluntary support over many years from the members of the Historical Society has achieved high standards of service and presentation.
Any expenditure to keep this facility fully operational should be regarded as an essential service alongside all the other things provided from our taxes e.g. hanging baskets, decorations, street cleaning, refuse collection and so on. Well done to our Town Councillors for their understanding.
Bill Underwood, Shannon Way, Evesham.
