Evesham 0, Walsall 3

IN THEIR latest Coaching Solutions West Midlands Premier game, Evesham saw fortunes go against them in their quest to record a first victory of the season.

They dominated early proceedings, passing the ball with much more purpose than of late and creating early chances that the forwards will be disappointed not to have converted.

Both Stuart Bearcroft and Martin Husbands had their opportunities but saw their shots well saved by the Walsall goalkeeper.

Matt Baumber and Seb Sene-que showed good understanding in both their positional and passing play and, for most of the first 35 minutes, Evesham were in total control without finding the net.

Shocked

However, right on the strike of half-time, the normally cool Jamie Dodgson produced a poor tackle outside the 25-yard area but was shocked to see a short corner awarded.

From the set-piece, Walsall saw a strike deflected into the top of the net to compound the home side's misfortune.

The hosts pressed for the equaliser but became ragged. Defensively, they were vulnerable to the counter-attack, while distribution from the back became more desperate as the home side sought to create quick opportunities.

Stuart Harris was once again outstanding in his effort and determination to force openings and he received excellent support on the left flank by Jon Vickery.

A lack of concentration, however, saw Walsall manage to create a chance with only three long passes from their own area that caught the home defence unawares and, as they scored a crucial second and the disappointment was all too easy to see on home faces.

In the final minutes Walsall capitalised on Evesham's dejection by adding a third to seal a victory that flattered the visitors.

After the game player-manager Husbands said: "We've dominated the first half and been hit by a sucker punch. At the moment things are going against us, but we've a good side, a good spirit and it only takes one win to bring all the confidence back."

Evesham continue their winter campaign against Warwick at Warwick School on Saturday (2.30pm).
