Bretforton 1, Lansdowne 2

BRETFORTON made a promising start and were the better team for the first 20 minutes as midfielders Lisa Workman, Sophie Corbett and Julie Hall linked up well with forwards Sarah Hall and Debbie Slatter.

Left back Blanche Surman, meanwhile, worked well containing the right wing cutting out a number of attacks but the hosts were unlucky to concede the opening goal when goalkeeper Vicky Webb had little chance of saving from close range.

Lansdowne kept the pressure on and centre back and player of the match Bobbie Hand-ley saved her side by clearing a shot off the line.

Bretforton produced some promising attacks in the second half and Slatter made an excellent run down the right and slipped the ball back for Julie Hall to make it 1-1.

Sarah Hall then made an excellent run down the centre and was unlucky not to score when her shot went agonisingly wide of a post.

The same player created another good chance and Gilly Wright saw her goalbound shot kept out by a last-ditch save.

Webb made an excellent save at the other end but she was powerless to prevent the rebound being slotted away to restore Lansdowne's advantage.

Despite excellent work late on from Work-man and Michaela Amphlett, Bretforton couldn't conjure up an equaliser.

Yate II 4, Bretforton Ladies II 0

AFTER drawing with the then league leaders Newent the previous week, Bretforton met stiffer opposition in the shape of the new summit side last Saturday.

The visiting defence stood strong against several attacks. Goalkeeper Fiona Lovecy made several good saves until a strike from a short corner found its way into the net.

Bretforton managed to push forward with several attacks and player of the match Sue Shephard was tireless in her efforts.

Centre back Marion Icke pushed up to attack with good effect in the second half but Bretforton failed to get a reward.

Bretforton began to tire and, with no spare players, were overrun late on as their opponents had the advantage of some fresh legs.

A further setback for the village side came with an injury to key defender Jude Edghill who bravely struggled on but Yate took advantage to scoring two more goals.

The match ball was sponsored by BHGS Evesham's Horticultural Suppliers.

It's St Greggs in a friendly at home this weekend.
