THE public are invited to take the plunge and view plans for Droitwich's 21st Century Lido.

Blueprints for the lido restoration are being splashed across the town as residents of all ages will have the chance to air their opinions.

"We want to hear from all residents, young and old so we have tried to get these plans in as many places as we can," said Wychavon District Council leader Martin Jennings.

"All comments and views will be considered prior to a report to be presented to the board."

Campaign group SALT (Save A Lido Today), which has led the campaign to restore the pool, is not exactly on the crest of a wave over the plans but has given them a cautious thumbs-up.

Chairman Linda Watkins said: "In an ideal world we would have liked to have seen the old lido reinstated as a basis for further redevelopment. However, we accept that this is not going to happen without substantial outside funding."

The lido plans include a heated outdoor saltwater pool, sloping to form a beach area, and a children's wet play area complete with sprays and water jets.

The old art deco building and changing rooms will also be retained with a modern mixed changing room.

The lido was opened in 1935 and attracted up to 4,000 visitors a day.

It closed in 2000 but campaign group SALT began the fight to restore it to its former glory.

Plans can be seen at the Community Contact Centre, on the High Street, and also at the town's library for the next two weeks. A display will also be on show at the town's high school.

People will be able to have their say by filling in questionnaires or going online at www.wychavon.gov.uk

to have their say online.

The blueprints will be discussed by the district council's executive board meeting on Tuesday, November 1.
