Littleton 2, Loughboro 1
LITTLETON avenged the previous week's defeat when they came out on top in Saturday's President's Cup clash.
The final scoreline flattered the visitors whose goal came in the sixth minute of injury-time before which they had hardly had a shot at goal!
Littleton opened strongly and, with a little more steadiness in front of goal, could have put the result beyond doubt in the first 15 minutes.
They almost took the lead in the first minute when a good move between Nathan Hawley and Matthew Edwards set up Phillip Haines whose effort was scrambled clear.
They took the lead eight minutes later when an inswinging corner from Edwards caused panic in the defence and the ball dropped to Matty Staley who scored for a a fifth successive match from close range.
A similar pattern continued for the rest of the half with Littleton in control and their opponents defending desperately.
Loughborough did have more of the play in the second half without looking dangerous whereas it was business as usual at their end.
A long throw from Edwards was nodded down by Haines to Simon Brain whose volley went over the bar.
Littleton doubled their lead 15 minutes from time and again it was Staley fastening on to a Steve Brown flick to break clear and steer the ball past the goalkeeper.
Three minutes later Littleton were awarded a penalty but Hall saved Brain's effort, then a centre from Hawley was headed goalwards by Jon Gregory but the keeper parried the ball to safety.
Loughborough broke away in the last moments and scored a consolation through Nathan Dace.
The winners return to league duty at Leamington Hibernian on Saturday, ko 2.45pm.
