MARTIN Robbins secured the Welsh Hill Climb Championship following a record-breaking victory in the final round.
The 41-year-old from Worc-ester wrapped up the title by completing the course at Margram Park, Swansea, in 31.16 seconds, beating his own record by more than a second.
Robbins, who rides a KTM 525, only entered the championship to fill time while he was not in action in the Super Moto Championship. But, after six rounds of competition, he finished on top in South Wales.
He said: "It was just something to do to fill in the gaps in Super Moto. It's an ideal bike to use for hill climbing.
"In Super Moto you are racing aground a circuit, while in the hill climb it's a tarmac circuit and it is against the clock."
Robbins had the fastest time of the day at each meeting and even recorded a victory over current British Hill Climb champion Paul Jeffrey.
For now, it's a return to the Super Moto Championship, in which Robbins is currently in second place.
He is back in action in Cumbria in November.
Robbins is now eager to secure sponsorship to guarantee his participation in the hill climb event next year.
"I would like to defend my championship next year and hopefully win it again," he said.
"Things are in doubt because my bike is getting a little bit old."
