THE Shakespeare Avon Cha-mpionship League fished the first in a series of five matches last Wednesday on the Eve-sham Town and Hampton Ferry Waters.
A good turnout of 37 anglers, all vying for the £1000 first prize and a place in next year's Shakespeare Avon Champion-ships, fished a very clear and low Warwickshire Avon.
Pershore's Ian Shepherd, who fishes under the banner of Port-way Sensas, won the match from Town peg 19 with 2lbs of gudgeon and 9lbs of roach and a few bits for a total weight of 9-4-0.
Fishing with a pole and catching some big roach on a pole was W B Clarke teamsman Leigh Gardner (Town 44) who claimed second with 9-0-8.
Teammate Steve Pierpoint was third (7-11-0, F79), while Adrian Narbeth (WB Clarke) finished fourth with 7.2.0 (F83).
Evesham Jubilee Society
FISHING a Stillwater match on the WDUAA Canal at Tallow Hill, Alan Gardner continued his excellent form to record a catch of 7.14.8 of prime perch.

The annual visit to the River Wye at Hereford to fish the Senior and Junior Wye Cups on the Pumphouse stretch takes place on Sunday.
Members uncertain of directions are asked to meet at Merstow Green at 7.30am.
Evesham and District Disabled Club and Partnership's
NINE members braved a damp and foggy start to take part in another round of the Fiesta Cakes Winter League on the Westminster Lake at Lemington Lakes near More-ton-in-Marsh.
Brian Andrews was the winner with a handsome weight of exactly 50lbs to leave Wayne Panting (43.11.0), Rob (32.10.0) and Ron Williams (14.0.0) to take up the minor places.

Evesham WMC
THE final round of the Still-water Series fished on the Jubilee Lake proved a close match with three pounds separating the top four finishers.
All caught small carp on the pole and pellet but it was Phil Preston who took top spot with 35.8.0.
Tying for second were Mick Brooks and Ian Jennings (34.8.0) ahead of Vic Woods (32.8.0).
The next match is at Crop-thorne with the new draw time of 7.30am.
Final standings: Vic Woods 103; Ian Jennings 97; Phil Preston 90.
