AWARD-WINNING radio presenter Malcolm Boyden is set to become the new community trustee at the Artrix.
The BBC Hereford and Worcester presenter has been drafted in to help raise the profile of the arts centre in School Drive, Bromsgrove. He will be unveiled to the board of trustees at a meeting tomorrow (Thursday) night.
The Artrix re-launched last month after a shaky start, but Boyden feels it has a lot of potential if it is marketed well.
"I'm really excited. I like a challenge," he said. "Like many people, I knew of its existence, but didn't know anything about it. I went to have a look around and thought there was potentially a lot going for it.
"Then a position on the board came up and I thought there were ways I could help, so I applied. I went for an interview. Now I can't wait to get started.
"We just need to make people aware of it, so hopefully I can help on that side."
Bromsgrove resident Boyden, who spent 12 years presenting on BBC WM before taking over as presenter of BBC Hereford and Worcester's Sunday morning show, hopes his media background will stand him in good stead.
"I will probably listen for a few weeks, see what is there and how it is run, rather than treading on any toes. Having had experience in pantomimes I'd like to think I know a bit about theatre and how it works.
"I will certainly make listeners aware of its existence!"
