NOW is the time for the people of Droitwich Spa to have their say about the future plans for the lido.

The eagerly awaited consultation period on the most recent proposals by Wychavon District Council has now begun and will give people of all ages the chance to have their say.

As of yesterday, displays are available at Droitwich Community Contact Centre and the town library. The new displays incorporate comments from the last round of consultation and now include heated saltwater up to 1.4m deep in a rectangular pool.

At the displays there are questionnaires that visitors can fill in to give their views. The questions asked include: 'Do you support the new plans for the Droitwich lido?', 'do you think there should be salt water or fresh water in the pool?' and 'how often do you think you would use the lido in the summer?'

Residents can also give their reasons for not supporting the plans and can give details of any extra features they want at the site.

However, people only have two weeks to get their views heard before the consultation period closes in time for the council's executive board meeting on Tuesday, November 1.

A display will also be put up at Droitwich Spa High School, Briar Mill, later this week to give younger residents the chance to have their say before the half term break.

Ian Wild, spokesman for The Friends of Droitwich Spa Lido and Its Park, said: "Now is the time for people to have their say as it may be their last chance. We are a little concerned that the consultation period is so short but now people need to get involved. Our main issue is keeping the heritage of the site."

A spokesman for Save a Lido Today (SALT) added: "We want to encourage people to go and have a look at the proposal and make their comments known. We are largely happy with it but there are one or two points about the depth of the pool.

"We will be giving our views and others should do the same."

Wychavon District Council leader Martin Jennings said: "We want to here from all residents young and old so we have tried to get these plans in as many places as we can. All comments and views will be considered prior to a report to be presented to the board.

"Providing a 21st century lido right for everyone to enjoy is high on our agenda. So please take this opportunity to help us get it right for you."
