CONSERVATIONISTS are this month being encouraged to gather seeds, nuts and fruits plant in their area.
Redditch Council has joined forces with the Tree Council to promote the importance of replanting trees, plants and flowers in the town.
October is the best time of year to collect seeds, which can then be used to replant lost hedging, link woodlands or regenerate ancient woodland.
The events will take place on or around the Tree Council's 'Seed Gathering Sunday' when individuals are being encouraged to join an organised event, organise their own seed gathering session event or go for a walk to gather seeds, nuts and fruits.
Council green space developer Karl Stokes will be visiting town schools to enlist children to help to collect acorns in order to nurture 2000 new oak trees.
These trees will be replanted in Pitcheroak Woods following a woodland management programme.
Council staff will be on hand to provide information to the pupils about woodland ecosystems and the history of woodlands in the borough.
