RESIDENTS at an Alvechurch care home have prepared for the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar by creating their own naval tribute.
Various activities have been arranged by Grosvenor House staff, which is run by Redditch-based Alpha Health Care.
The weekend's festivities commemorate the country's most celebrated naval triumph, when Horatio Nelson led his fleet to victory over Napoleon's attempted invasion of Britain in 1805.
The residents have made a banner (above) of 31 naval flags spelling the famous signal ''England Expects That Every Man Will Do His Duty'', which was displayed when the ships went into battle.
On Friday, resident Dick Bird, 83, will recite Nelson's Prayer and food served at Grosvenor House will include ship's gruel, royal marinated chicken breasts and naval bread and butter pudding - as well as a rum ration for residents.
Activities co-ordinator Pauline Wheeler said: "This is an important historical date and there will be a lot of celebrations across the country.
"The banner looks fabulous. It will be given pride of place in the home and our celebrations will last throughout the day."
