LIVING in a riverside town has many benefits. But there is another side to every coin, and in the case of Upton, it is the advent of what I would term the river hog.
As soon as the warmer weather starts in the spring, many boaters and other floating visitors arrive in Upton.
The vast majority are law-abiding but a small minority seems to think that the rules that govern the rest of us do not apply to them. The litter they leave is bad enough, but my main concern is the speed at which some of the faster craft travel.
There seems to be an assumption that the River Severn is no different from the outside lane of a motorway.
This not only amounts to anti-social behaviour, but is also damaging to wildlife. KIngfishers and otters are particularly vulnerable. Is it too much to ask these people to slow down?
