There has been no decision to change to wheelie bins. While the issue was certainly discussed by the council's executive committee earlier in the summer, councillors expressed exactly the same concerns about wheelie bins as mentioned by J S Carter (Your Letters, September 30) of smells, unsightliness and manoeuvring/space difficulties for many residents.
Although wheelie bins are a reality in other parts of Worcestershire and indeed have been proposed as part of the long-term county 'vision' set out in the Joint Municipal Waste Strategy, Malvern Hills District Council has made no commitment to change its collection methodology.
Indeed, two weeks ago, when the subject of recycling was again on the council's executive committee agenda (this time in relation to the introduction of recycling at all schools in the district), it was agreed that the preferred future for Malvern Hills should be a single sack for all recyclables.
This point was further reinforced at the recycling public forum, when more than 50 residents from many parts of the district provided their feedback on aspects of the current arrangements and on priorities and practicalities for the future.
Coun John W Raine (portfolio-holder for recycling, Malvern Hills District Council), Brockhill Road, West Malvern.
