THE classic rock 'n' roll sounds of the 50s and 60s will be revived at a charity gig in Malvern next Friday, October 21.
Organised by Dave Roberts, owner of Carlton Antiques in Worcester Road, Malvern, it is part of his fundraising efforts for a local dogs' sanctuary.
Over the last three years, he has raised some £3,000 for the Worcester Animal Rescue Centre, Deblins Green.
"I love dogs and I love rock 'n' roll, and this seemed like a good way to bring them together," he said.
Dave's band, The Pontiacs, has been rehearsing for several years and although they have performed at private parties for friends and relatives, this will be their first appearance before a paying audience.
As well as Dave on guitar and vocals, the band has Stephan Agopsowicz on bass, Dave Harrison on lead guitar and Nick Taylor on drums.
Their set includes rock 'n' roll classics such as Shakin' All Over, Be Bop A Lula and Blue Suede Shoes. "They're songs that everyone knows and loves," said Dave.
Supporting The Pontiacs will be Rock of Ages, a Shadows tribute band consisting of Ian Young (drums), Ken Appleby (bass), Keith Parkes (rhythm guitar) and Richard Tandy (lead guitar). Dave will be singing a few numbers with Rock of Ages, as well as performing his own set.
"It's going to be a great evening and it's for a good cause, so I want as many people as possible to support us," he said.
The gig is at Newtown Club, Newtown Road, at 8pm and tickets, priced £3, are on sale at Carlton Antiques. There is also includes a raffle and donations of prizes are welcomed.
