MALVERN Angels showed that their squad commitment is unchanged whether home or away by taking their second league victory of the season with a resounding win at Eccleshall.
ECCLESHALL 0, MALVERN ANGELS 46pts
In a well-contested match, the Angels began their points tally with first-half tries from full-back Layni Madsen, No 8 Abi Rhodes, debuting scrum-half Caroline Harvey and two tries for winger Laura Bradford, with Debbie Danby converting for the extra points.
Eccleshall were unable to respond to the mounting points tally despite making some promising breaks that were left wanting when it came to finishing.
The Angels dominated the set phases of the game, especially in the scrum and line-out with jumping options thwarting attempts by Eccleshall to gain any advantage.
Nevertheless, the hosts battled hard to keep the Angels away from the try-line and contain the score to 29-0 at half-time.
The second-half saw a fired-up Angels squad looking to capitalise on their points advantage and following some strong runs from hooker Rachel Brannelly, prop-forward Lynsey Secomb and flanker Mel Dawson, they were rewarded with a third try for winger Laura Bradford.
Moments later, Mel Dawson picked up a loose ball on the blindside of a five-metre scrum and from the resulting ruck, prop-forward Claire Labrano charged for the line for her first try of the season to add another five points, with Deb Danby converting to see the Angels to a full-time score of 0-46.
The Angels' debut scrum-half, Caroline Harvey collected the player-of-the match award.
The Angels' next league challenge is on Sunday (October 16) away to Buxton.
