RBL WOMEN'S SECTION: After the exhortation said by chairman Wendy Griffiths, Edna Price gave her report as president followed by the chairman, secretary and treasurer. All officers paid tribute to Ivy Reed, who has been standard bearer for a number of years but has retired because of ill health.
The officers and committee were all re-elected with one new member, Barbara Shalders. Barbara Duckett a county committee member gave a report and presented certificate of appreciation from the county committee to Edna Price, Joan Buller, Violet Miles, Betty Peat, Ivy Reed, Ray Green and Laura Joyce.
The next meeting will be on November 1 when Mr Hares will talk about plants. Old and new members are welcome.
LADIES' GUILD: At the October meeting members enjoyed seeing a collection of slides of Well Dressing in Derbyshire, shown by Keith Robinson. He explained all about the intricate work which goes into the production of each dressed well during the summer. Each work of art lasts about a week, as the petals fade and drop off.
Names were taken for the Christmas lunch on December 8 at the Railway Inn, Defford.
After the tea break, a new member, Mrs S Allies, was welcomed.
Mrs Lockhart announced that at the recent wine and cheese evening, £489 was raised for this year's charity. She thanked the committee for providing all the nibbles, members for their support and Mrs Herbert and the Guilded Lilies for their polished performance. The raffle raised £142.
A further letter regarding garden rubbish bags was read and is being sent to Wychavon District Council.
Mrs Loach reported that the literary group had had a wide-ranging discussion on the book Fingersmith by Sarah Walters. Their next meeting is on November 7.
The sales table raised £23.
The skittles players are meeting on the second Tuesday of each month at 10am and all members are welcome.
At the next meeting on Tuesday, November 1 in Wulstan Hall at 2pm a member, Mrs S Hunt, will give a talk about her travels, instead of the booked speaker who is unable to attend. The sales table will be Christmas goods.
