Mickleton Society: The Mickleton Society held its first meeting of the new season in King George's Hall. About 70 people listened to an enthralling talk by Tony Caldwell on the Last Forbidden Kingdom of Mustang.
Tony, who lives in Evesham, has been raising funds for The Leukaemia Research Fund for more than 24 years, to date raising more than £500,000. His three-year-old son contracted leukaemia and died from it two years later. Tony is an experienced trekker and has visited many countries, later lecturing on his experiences. He was in the Himalayas in 1996 and then decided to visit Mustang, a small country, north of India. Once independent, it is technically part of Nepal. It still has its own king and was for many years closed to foreigners, the borders only re-opening in 1992 and then on a very restricted basis.
