KIDDERMINSTER racing driver Nathan Freke has been offered a works drive with a leading National Formula Ford team after producing his best result of the season.

Freke won more admirers when he used his skill of driving in wet conditions to finish second in the Formula Ford Carnival FF1600 at Castle Combe.

As a result, he has attracted interest from Jamun Racing, who have won the British title in three of the past five years.

The team has an impressive reputation with many of their drivers being nominated for BRDC / Autosport young driver of the year awards.

Freke has some of the funding required to complete the deal, but the Newnet/A&E Fire-sponsored Century Motorsport driver requires further financial assistance.

He is also being considered for a drive in the Porsch Carrera Cup, subject once again to funding.

Freke overcame mechanical problems in qualifying to give himself a fighting chance in the final where he knew he could count upon his superior driving skills to level the playing field.

And although he came up against drivers with greater engine power, his experience of driving in the wet allowed him to storm into second place.

Freke also won the Motorsport News Best Driver award at the evening presentation.

He is now preparing for the Formula Ford Festival at Brands Hatch, and the Walter Hayes Trophy at Silverstone.

l THERE was also success for fellow Kidderminster driver Chris Woodhouse who finished second in the Monoposto Racing Club championships.

The 20-year-old braved wet conditions in the final round at Castle Combe, in Wiltshire, to triumph twice in the 1200s class.

Those were Woodhouse's first outright wins and capped a great first season driving his Speadz motorcycle engine single seater in the 14-round series.

Throughout the championships, he has only retired from one race and set a lap record for his class at Silverstone.

Fellow Kidderminster racer Francis Phillips finished first then second in the two-litre monoposto class.

Woodhouse said: "I'd just like to thank my team for all the support they've given me this season."
