FIFTEEN children who have suffered burn injuries enjoyed a day on the River Severn thanks to fund-raising by Stourport Rotarians.

The youngsters and their families, who were mostly from Wyre Forest, have received help and support from the charity, Burnaid.

Former Stourport Rotary Club president, Syd Handy, chose the voluntary organisation, which is based at Birmingham's Selly Oak Hospital, for his appeal in 2004.

The children, aged between five and 12, were treated to the boat trip, lunch, games and given a Stourport goody bag to remind them of the day.

Mr Handy, 75, said: "I decided to try and help the charity after I went to Birmingham and saw a presentation by the group. Some of the images brought tears to my eyes and that made my mind up straight away.

"It was amazing to witness how everyone bonded. We were all strangers at the start but, by the end, we had all made some new friends.

A new innovation from the charity is the Enzo's Friends group that has been formed especially to help children.

Helen King, a volunteer for Burnaid, said: "We are so grateful for Stourport Rotary Club's support because, without them, that fantastic day would not have happened.

"It was a great opportunity for children to get together and have some fun with others who have shared the same sorts of experiences."
