CRIMEBUSTERS tackling Kidderminster town centre thefts are to receive a Government award for their outstanding achievements.
The Kidderminster Retail Initiative and Safety Programme - KRISP - is included in one of the first rounds of the new Safer Business Award certificates to be awarded in the region.
The organisation has won the top accreditation after its data control procedures passed with flying colours under scrutiny from the Government's Action Against Business Crime.
The vice-chairman, of KRISP, Bill Crook, who instigated the scheme 16 years ago, will receive the certificate from Minister of State for Trade, Ian Pearson, at the Working Together to Reduce Business Crime conference.
The award is being made in recognition of the quality of the scheme, which works in partnership with the police.
It involves the compilation of photographic records of convicted criminals and others who have demonstrated anti-social and unruly behaviour, which are shared among members.
Trustee board member, Dave Collins, said the award would help boost KRISP's profile, which he hoped would lead to an increase in membership, already standing at more than 80, and an expansion in the area covered.
Mr Crook, who runs BBM Jewellery, said: "I am absolutely delighted that KRISP should receive this award after all the hard work.
"People should be aware of the work KRISP is doing to protect them. Unruly behaviour and shoplifting is kept at bay as a result of this scheme."
