RUSSELL'S, a restaurant that opened in Broadway in February 2004, has scooped its first prestigious award.

It has been named Newcomer of the Year in the independent Good Hotel Guide 2006 Cesar Awards.

Russell's is described in the guide published last week as "fabulous," "wonderful" and "outstanding" and the food "mouth-watering".

The review goes on to say that owners Barry Hancox and Andrew Riley have done wonders with the listed building, creating a smart, modern look while retaining beams, inglenook fireplaces and oak banisters.

Mr Hancox said: "We're ecstatic and very proud of Russell's which has been the realisation of a lifelong dream for both of us.

Co-owner Andrew Riley said: "We're going to celebrate our first anniversary shortly so this is a really exciting way of marking the end of a fantastic first year and the start of our second."
