WORK started this week at the household waste site at Hill and Moor, Pershore, to extend the range of recycling facilities and provide easier access for the public.

Site operators Severn Waste Services expect the works to be completed by Christmas, in time for the festive recycling rush.

Area manager Jane Harthill said: "The alterations to the site will improve the traffic flow and increase the size of the upper level parking area, as well as giving us more space to accommodate new containers for recycling materials such as timber."

She added: "The recycling message is really catching hold across the county and at the Hill and Moor site over 60 per cent of incoming material is being recycled rather than sent to landfill. With the new improvements, intended to make life easier for site users, we aim to get even better."

Although the site will remain open during the construction works, the public may be subject to some delays, particularly at busy periods.

Site users are being advised to plan their visits to avoid the usual peak periods if possible, to allow more time for their visit and to carefully follow instructions and advice on entering the site so that they can be got in and out as quickly as possible.

The site is open from 8am to 6pm Monday to Saturday and 9am to 1.30pm on Sundays.
