A Worcester school attended by a large number of pupils of Pakistani origin has started its
fund-raising appeal for the victims of the Kashmir earthquake.
A chalk map of
northern Pakistan and Kashmir has been drawn on the playground of Stanley Road Primary School, off Stanley Road, near Wyld's Lane.
Headteacher Anne Potter said around half her of her students were Pakistani.
She said: "We want to collect as much money as we can so we can cover
the map.
"We'll replace the money by colouring in the map so we can see how well we are doing.
"We hope to cover the map by half-term."
Meanwhile, fund-raising efforts by the Worcester Muslim Welfare Association, which only got going on Tuesday,
have received a significant boost.
The Worcestershire Racial Equality Council was today due to hand over a cheque for £1,000.
Chief executive Peter O'Teng said: "We're
making this donation because most of the victims have got families over here and we want to make this gesture so it will encourage other to do so too."
