Evesham United Ladies 2
Redditch VC Women 1
REDDITCH VC lost only their second game of the season on Sunday, suffering the worst of starts when they conceded a goal inside the opening minute.
A defensive mistake was pounced on by the Evesham centre forward and she chipped a shot over keeper Nicky Metje from the edge of the box.
And the home side soon added a second when a free-kick was tipped onto the bar by Metje only for an Evesham player to react first and knock the the rebound.
With an uphill battle now on their hands VC started to create some opportunities with Lianne Cooper working superbly on the right. Jenna Dedicoat had a couple of opportunities and a miscued back pass by an Evesham defender crashed against her own bar.
The final stages of the first half saw Redditch reduce the arrears, Cooper setting up Dedicoat who finished clinically from close range.
VC pinned their hosts back in the second period with Dedicoat, Cooper and Tara Cook all having shots saved or missing the target.
This pattern of play continued with both Jenny Worthington and Kate Saint having headers go narrowly wide as Redditch failed to find the equaliser.
University of Birmingham 5 Studley WFC 1
Studley made the trip to an undefeated University side and began well, controlling the opening 20 minutes.
Solid defending kept the visitors at bay and it was the home side who broke the deadlock following a fine defence-splitting pass.
Studley upped the pace but were denied by the home side's keeper and a mix-up in their defence gifted the University a second before the break.
Studley reduced the arrears on the hour when Sam Tayler put the ball over the defence for Sam Wilkinson to run through and net her first goal.
Helen Clancy and Rachel Hopkins went close to equalising but it was the home side who finished the stronger and ran in three more goals.
n Studley Reserves drew 1-1 with Birmingham Medics, Alice Staniland bagging the goal for the home side following an excellent pass from Louise Thornton.
