DROITWICH Dolphins hosted a first round National Speedo League gala, finishing a creditable third behind Shrewsbury and Leighton Buzzard.

There were some stunning performances from the team, who achieved 12 first places and beat off the challenges from Stourbridge 'B', Aylesbury and Long Eaton.

But for two disqualifications in the concluding relays, the team would have been second.

Leading the way were Rachel Roberts with three victories (ladies' open breaststroke, freestyle and individual medley) and Robin Williams with first place in the boys' 15 and under backstroke and freestyle. Williams also came second in the men's freestyle.

Droitwich really shone in the 11 and under age group with Elliott Hall-Annison winning the butterfly and backstroke and Josh Deacon the freestyle. Ben Rimington was second in the breaststroke and they were joined by Tom Hartwright to claim a freestyle relay victory.

In the girls, Tamlyn Williams excelled with victory in the backstroke and second in the butterfly. With team-mates Alex Llewellyn, Jessica Lloyd and Georgina Buck, she won the freestyle relay and was second in the medley relay. Buck also came second in the individual freestyle.

At 13 and under level, Sophie Jenkins was a winner in the breaststroke, while Jenkins, Helen Nutter, Catherine Llewellyn and Emma Houlston won an exciting medley relay.

In the men's events, Steve Snape grabbed second in the breastroke and the medley relay team of Simon Hillson, Snape, Lee Hall-Annison and Robin Williams were also runners-up.
