HERE is a fairy story. A benevolent wizard comes along and decides that he is going to make the rich even richer.
Every year he will let them put up to £200,000 worth of property or fine wines or works of art into their personal pension funds. To encourage them to do this the wizard will add a further £80,000 to their fund every year.
So these happy, rich folk will be getting £200,000 worth of goodies for only £120,000. And when they sell their property at a profit in years to come it will all be free of tax.
Yippee! - say the rich, as they get even richer.
Only it is not a fairy story. It is government policy. The £80,000 that each of these rich people will get from the Government to top up their pension fund will come from the taxpayer. You and me.
If only 40,000 people take full advantage of this amazing scheme each year it will cost the taxpayer £3 billion a year!
Is this what people voted Labour for? Is this what any sane person voted for?
