LAST week, to considerable publicity, it was announced by the EU President that 68 EU directives would be eliminated.
What was not announced is that since Tony Blair became President on July 1, 962 EU directives and regulations have been introduced by the EU as well as 1,110 legislative instruments, all of which have the force of law in our country. As a comparison in the last 500 years, our Parliament has passed just over 25,000 acts in total, so in three months, the EU have introduce rules and regulations equivalent to 10 per cent of the work output of the UK.
As the Independence and Democracy group in the EU Parliament says - we need a referendum to decide whether we want to be part of this high bureaucracy.
MARK STARR,
Leigh Sinton.
